9th Open Forum and Symposium "Innovative Sensor Technology"

Today, innovative sensor systems and data-based soft sensors provide comprehensive information, detect potentially dangerous situations and are indispensable for increasing energy and resource efficiency. Monitoring critical infrastructure is possible, for example, through novel networked sensors.

Experts from research, science and industry will present the state of research and development at the 9th Open Forum and Symposium "Innovative Sensor Technology". The symposium will take place from 9 - 10 November at the Fraunhofer-Institut für Chemische Technologie ICT in Pfinztal. It offers an open platform to promote cooperation talks and discussions.

Dr. Thomas Freudenmann, CEO and co-founder of EDI GmbH will present the Well-Being Barometer on the one hand and the AI tool on the other hand at the event, using the example of its application in the MVV waste incineration plant in Mannheim.

The Well-Being Barometer is a solution for seniors who live alone or in an assisted living facility and who still manage their daily lives independently. The Well-Being Barometer detects the current well-being of the seniors. Caregivers and relatives do not have to worry, because they are informed immediately of any changes. This prevents accidents and the seniors feel safe at all times.

The AI tool is a generic approach to predictive process optimisation and control for medium-sized process plant operators. In the MVV application, the calorific value of the delivered waste is determined by image recognition. Subsequently, the plant and the process for incinerating the waste are adjusted using smart algorithms so that there is no need to reheat with natural gas. A saving in costs and resources that is particularly topical at the moment.

The event is organised by the HybridSensorNet e.V. Participation is free of charge for members of the association. For non-members, a fee of 180,- € (universities etc.) or 340,- € (industry) will be charged, which will be credited towards the purchase of membership.
